Trend Micro Offers Multi-Layered Consumer Protection

Trend Micro Offers Multi-Layered Protection for The Latest Technologies and Trends Debuting at CES 2010

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7, 2009 - Staying true to its history of keeping consumers safe and ahead of security threats,
Trend Micro today outlined potential security considerations arising from the stream of trends and technologies
set to launch at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show.

What many of these new technologies at CES have in common is that they are developed specifically for the
widest possible audience, rather than a tech-savvy few. There will be fun toys for the kids, household gadgets
for mom and dad, devices for everything from parenting, entertainment and education, along with many other
trends that offer cool cachet, ease of use and endless possibilities. What these new technologies also have in
common is that they widen their user’s gateway to the Internet - a cyber thief’s dream.

" We’re still in the early days of the Internet, so the excitement over new toys and tools can make us forget that
these devices also open doors to our homes,” said Carol Carpenter, general manager of the consumer and small
business unit at Trend Micro. “We should be able to take full advantage of these innovations without worry. For
that to happen, every home needs a comprehensive solution like Trend Micro Internet SecurityPro 2010 in place
before unwrapping and fully enjoying their new gadgets.”

While thousands of gadgets and electronic devices emerge each year at CES, below are four new technologies
and trends set to dominate the show:

Netbooks: Analysts say that the Netbook market may already have peaked. However, someone forgot to tell the
manufacturers that there is a barrage of smaller computers looking to make big news. Despite enhanced graphics
and other tweaks, many still count on portability and easy online access to find an audience. That flexibility comes
with a price. For example, cybercriminals can steal credit card information and then transfer funds to their own
account. According to a recent Trend Micro Threat Report, there will be more attacks directly targeting victims’
bank accounts in the coming year.

eBook readers: This previously-fringed market item is set to explode with rapidly increasing popularity and a new
brand choices. Each new offering will bring a world of content (and new threats) with just a flick of the finger.
Like Netbooks, these devices connect to the Internet to download their content via Wi-Fi connection, can store
credit card information and can be easily accessed through the home network if not properly protected. Imagine
opening up your eBook to find purchased content that you didn’t authorize!

Phones: Phones doubling as mini-computers continue to make the simple mobile phone the most-used channel
to the Internet. In a 2009 Trend Micro smartphone survey, over 50 percent of smartphone users surf the Web
from their device for over 30 minutes per week. Of these, more than 12 percent are spending more than 120 minutes
per week surfing the Web. Easy access carries a high price tag including SMS text message spam or ID fraud.

IPTV: CES is predicting that television delivered over the Internet will be a defining trend of 2010. Consumers will
begin embracing online delivery more than ever before, streaming their favorite TV shows to their computers.
However, access to the Internet via Ethernet opens doors for cybercriminals to hack into the home network. With
an open gateway, thieves can access even Netflix passwords. Imagine your movie queue changing, or even
somebody altering the address on your account, leaving you paying for someone else’s rentals.

All of these gadgets and trends promise simplicity and convenience online - and that’s exactly what shapes
Trend Micro’s philosophy in making that process more secure. According to Carpenter, “solutions like Home
Network Defender, Trend Micro Mobile Security and the new Trend Micro Internet Security 2010 provide a solid
line of defense against cybercriminals and online predators by stopping the threats at the router “gate,” the mobile
device and the PC. Home Network Defender is an easy-to-install, easy-to-manage security service for homes with
Linksys by Cisco routers. Custom designed by Trend Micro for Linksys by Cisco routers, this multi-layered home
network security solution protects both the router and all Internet-enabled devices connected to it.”

The Trend Micro Consumer Product Family lineup includes Trend Micro Internet Security, Trend Micro Internet
Security Pro, with Trend Micro Mobile Security and Trend Micro Anti Virus.

Trend Micro Internet Security is an easy to use offering that gives consumers ubiquitous protection through various
web-connected devices. The software keeps consumers’ data and personal information more secure from online
threats through multi-layered universal protections against malware, bots, spam, spyware, hacking and identity theft.
It also gives users the freedom and peace of mind to shop, bank, or just surf without complexity. An added bonus:
The Home Network Security Management function allows consumers to see and remotely manage other computers
in their home network through a graphical home network map, and block wireless network intruders.

Trend Micro Internet Security Pro provides the most comprehensive, easy-to-use protection for up to three PC’s.
The offering also includes Trend Micro Mobile Security that protects smartphones against viruses, SMS text message
spam and other malware attacks against Microsoft Windows Mobile and Symbian™ OS-based devices. The technology
lso prevents data theft and service disruption through additional multi-layer protection.

Trend Micro Anti Virus + AntiSpyware is the essential security you need so you can email and share files with
confidence. You can rest easy knowing you have ongoing, easy-to-use protection against the latest malicious
viruses, worms, Trojan horse programs, and spyware.

Trend Micro Launches Broad Strategy and New Solutions for Advanced Server Security

Trend Micro advanced server security solutions provide the industry's most comprehensive protection and
security management for dynamic datacenters.

CUPERTINO, Calif., Oct. 26, 2009 -- Trend Micro is introducing an advanced server security strategy that
encompasses protection for the cloud, as well as products and solutions that help corporations address the
challenging data protection, security and compliance needs of today's datacenters that stretch across physical,
virtualized and cloud-computing environments.

Independent research and industry analyst reports indicate 95 percent of datacenters in 2009 are employing
irtualization technology and 60 percent of production virtual machines are less secure than their physical counterparts.
In fact, 88 percent of North American companies do not even have a virtualization security strategy. Additionally,
datacenters are facing new and sophisticated attacks every day, putting them at a greater risk of security breaches.

Trend Micro™ Deep Security, the flagship product for advanced server security at Trend Micro, introduces a new
paradigm for server security where the entire server is protected, including the operating system, network and
applications layers for superior and comprehensive security, regardless of computing environment, virtualization
platform or storage location. It emphasizes:

-- Preventing data breaches and disruptions by providing a layer of defense at the server itself, whether physical,
virtual or cloud.
-- Lowering the cost of security management for virtual and cloud computing environments.
-- Helping to make possible compliance over a wide range of regulations and standards, including PCI, SAS 70,
FISMA, HIPAA, and more.
-- Addressing immediate security concerns plaguing enterprises in physical and virtual worlds such as SQL injection
and cross-site scripting attacks perpetrated by sophisticated, for-profit hackers.

"With datacenters becoming more dynamic, traditional security solutions break down due to unique challenges
imposed by virtualization and the ever increasing sophistication of for-profit attackers," said Thomas Miller, executive
general manager of the enterprise business unit, Trend Micro. "With cloud computing, servers, like laptops before
them, are moving outside the security perimeter and can be co-located with unknown and potentially malicious
servers. Trend Micro server security solutions enable protection for virtual and cloud-based servers that are
susceptible to these unique risks and challenges currently not addressed by existing security solutions."

Trend Micro Deep Security provides advanced protection for servers right from the operating system to resident
applications with a modular architecture that includes: A deep packet inspection engine with intrusion detection/
prevention (IDS/IPS), Web application protection and network-level application control; firewall, integrity monitoring
and log inspection modules. This protection is available for both physical and virtual systems using server-based
software agents and, coming soon with Deep Security 7.0, using virtual security appliances specifically designed
for VMware VI3 and vSphere 4 environments. Trend Micro Deep Security 7.0, the latest version, is the world's
first security software that coordinates VMsafe API-based security applied at the hypervisor with additional
protection on virtual machines to protect VMware environments. This version also includes new features designed
to improve management and simplify compliance for a lower total cost of ownership such as: Event tagging to
enable better workflow of security incident handling, the ability to create a "reference system" or known good state
to reduce false positive alerts resulting from normal system updates such as patching. Other enhancements include
integrity monitoring, log inspection, and SIEM integration capabilities.

Beth Israel Deaconess Physicians Organization Implements Trend Micro Deep Security
Beth Israel Deaconess Physicians Organization, the physician organization for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical
Center in Boston MA, provides medical management services in support of its 1,500 members throughout eastern
Massachusetts. In order to promote and improve the quality of care for all patients, it required a secure, flexible
computing infrastructure, which is why it implemented a private cloud VMware virtualized environment. To further
mitigate risk, BIDPO deployed Trend Micro Deep Security, which helps ensure sensitive patient data and computing
applications are safe.

"We created a best practices defense-in-depth security architecture, knowing that we were going to be putting
patient data on the Internet," explained Bill Gillis, director of clinical application services and technical director for
the BIDMC/BIDPO EHR Joint Venture. "We really rely on the server security strategy that Trend Micro has brought
to the table for us. It gives us an environment where we can bring virtualization to the forefront, to the Web, in a
secure way so that we don't have to worry so much about security breaches."

Trend Micro Deep Security combines with Trend Micro™ ServerProtect™ and Core Protection™ for Virtual Machines,
the company's anti-malware products designed for physical servers and VMware virtual servers respectively. This
unique blend delivers layered and comprehensive server security now vital to business continuity. Trend Micro
Deep Security, with advanced anti-malware protection, further adds to Trend Micro's ability to broadly deliver
layered and comprehensive server security now vital to business continuity.

Pricing and Availability for North America
Trend Micro Deep Security 7 will be available in November 2009 with two pricing models designed to deliver
maximum value to organizations. Deep Security is available for traditional physical servers on a per server basis
starting at $885 per server. A virtual server license is also available for VMware environments with unlimited agents
per host machine starting at $2100 per socket.

AvePoint and Trend Micro Partner to Deliver SharePoint Antivirus Solutions

As a result of partnership, AvePoint’s SharePoint Antivirus solutions will be fully-integrated with Trend Micro’s
antivirus technologies, providing customers with best-of-breed malware protection for their SharePoint deployments

Jersey City, N.J. – October 22, 2009 — AvePoint, the leading provider of infrastructure management software solutions
for Microsoft® SharePoint®, today announced that it has partnered with Trend Micro, a global leader in Internet
content security, to deliver the industry’s most powerful SharePoint antivirus solutions. As a result of this partnership,
AvePoint’s SharePoint Antivirus product will now leverage the Trend Micro™ Smart Protection Network™, a cloud-client
content security architecture delivering correlated, up-to-the-minute threat intelligence, to block infected files from
entering SharePoint, protect data from corruption and theft, and prevent threats and malware from spreading among
SharePoint end users.

Virus protection has become a top concern for organizations using SharePoint as a business productivity tool.
SharePoint’s core strength is the empowerment of real-time collaboration and knowledge sharing among staff,
customers, clients, partners, consultants, and remote employees; but this very strength exposes organizations
running SharePoint to increased security risk by opening new pathways for cybercriminals to enter into the corporate
network. Equally critical, the collaborative nature of SharePoint means that any malicious code introduced into the
platform can spread quickly among an organization’s eco-system of employees, partners, and customers. Because
viruses, worms, rootkits, and Trojan horses are being written exclusively to target SharePoint Products and
Technologies, the diligent protection of the platform has become a necessity.

However, an independent survey commissioned by Trend Micro in January 2009 found that most companies fail
to deploy Microsoft SharePoint-specific security, leaving them vulnerable to data theft and malicious attacks.
AvePoint’s SharePoint Antivirus solutions, fortified with Trend Micro’s award-winning technologies, will provide
the comprehensive security SharePoint deployments require.

“AvePoint is excited to partner with Trend Micro to deliver the industry’s most powerful SharePoint-dedicated
antivirus solutions”, said Dr. Tianyi (TJ) Jiang, chief operating officer, AvePoint. “As SharePoint becomes more
mission-critical to organizations worldwide, it is important that they deploy an antivirus solution which fully protects
SharePoint infrastructure. Many often think that enterprise-wide antivirus is sufficient, and they learn the hard way
that a SharePoint-centric solution is needed. Trend Micro is a global leader in the space, and through this partnership,
AvePoint will be able to deliver the most aggressive SharePoint malware protection on the market.”

AvePoint SharePoint Antivirus product will leverage Trend Micro’s best-of-breed technologies, including an antivirus
engine built upon the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network. Harnessing this pioneering technology, AvePoint’s
SharePoint Antivirus solution will deliver:

   • Real-time and scheduled scanning of all SharePoint content and architecture for malicious code, including
viruses, worms, rootkits, and Trojan horses
   • Quarantine based outside of SQL with full review access via SharePoint’s Central Administration interface allows
for both secure platform protection and efficient resolution following the discovery of malicious content
   • Full integration into SharePoint Central Administration, providing for efficient and unified solution management
across your entire Microsoft SharePoint farm
   • Automatic scan of all similar and versioned content upon identification of malware event, to verify integrity of
all previous item versions
   • Fully customizable email notifications when quarantine-event occurs, for rapid review and response to potential
threats
   • Incremental database scans, delivering highest level of business security while optimizing system resources

“Trend Micro is pleased to be working with AvePoint, a recognized leader in the Microsoft SharePoint market, to
provide comprehensive antivirus protection for its customers,” said John Maddison, senior vice president, Trend
Micro. “We have always encouraged companies to consider solutions like this that have SharePoint-specific security
capabilities rather than solely relying upon general server antivirus products that do not provide complete and
adequate protection.”

Enterprises Are Enticed by Cloud Computing, But Discriminating About Security

Trend Micro, a pioneer in cloud computing security, surveyed companies and found that security and network
protection shape their decisions on cloud-computing adoption

CUPERTINO, Calif., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Enterprises that are looking to implement the benefits of cloud
computing into their businesses want to be sure the forecast is clear of Internet security threats that could harm
their network, drain IT resources, steal proprietary data and taint their corporate reputation.

A recent Trend Micro survey of nearly 200 IT decision-makers and CIOs who were non-Trend Micro customers
found that nine in ten respondents (89 percent) look for in-the-cloud protection in an IT security solution. For
some, cloud security isn't even an option: Almost 40 percent of them would only consider security solutions that
include in-the-cloud threat intelligence (Trend Micro™ Enterprise Security, for example, is powered by the Trend
Micro™ Smart Protection Network™ cloud-client infrastructure).

Security, or lack thereof, can make or break a cloud computing choice. According to the survey, 61 percent of
respondents said they are holding off on cloud computing solutions until they can be reasonably sure that there
are no significant security risks to their networks as a result. A smaller group - 27 percent - said that security concerns
might cause them to take a second look but the benefits of cloud computing outweigh security issues, and it won't
cause them to delay or cancel plans to implement a new cloud computing solution.

"For Trend Micro, 'cloud computing' is almost synonymous with 'cloud security' because you can't have one without
the other. The survey results demonstrate that many enterprises see the benefits, but have reservations about
deploying sensitive applications into the cloud," said Thomas Miller, general manager of the enterprise business unit,
Trend Micro. "If corporations are going to rely on the Internet cloud to store data and conduct business, they would
also want superior security designed for in-the-cloud protection. Trend Micro has pioneered a smarter approach to
security, both for-the-cloud and in-the cloud through Trend Micro Enterprise Security."

Trend Micro Enterprise Security is a tightly integrated offering of content security products, services and solutions
powered by the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network. Together, they deliver immediate protection from emerging
threats while greatly reducing the cost and complexity of security management.

Trend Micro Takes Blogging Into the Clouds
In addition to offering products and solutions, Trend Micro also provides commentary and thought leadership in
cloud computing. Recently, Trend Micro introduced The Trend Cloud Security Blog, dedicated to the discussion of
cloud computing security issues. Top bloggers include CEO, Eva Chen and CTO, Raimund Genes who address the
challenges presented to infrastructure security and provide a framework for evaluating cloud security - both security
for the cloud and cloud-based security.

Trend Micro Leads in URL Filtering and Web Security Once Again

Asserting its continued leadership, Trend Micro beats out four other Web gateway security solutions in
independent tests conducted by Cascadia Labs

CUPERTINO, Calif., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Just as it did in Cascadia Labs' Q4 2008 report, Trend Micro's
URL filtering and Web security technologies defeated other market-leading products tested by independent
tester Cascadia Labs. Again, Trend Micro proves that the cloud-client infrastructure of the Trend Micro™ Smart
Protection Network™ is the best way to block out Web threats.

Trend Micro earned a weighted overall score of 75 percent (up 5 percent from the 2008 test), while the second-
ranked product earned 67 percent.

In addition to posting the highest score overall, Trend Micro also ranked first at blocking URLs leading to security
threats: The company had a dominant 79 percent score (up from 68 percent in 2008), compared with other
products' scores of an average 50 percent blocking of different types of malicious URLs. These URLs were
ndependently selected, classified, and verified by Cascadia Labs' proprietary systems. They were neither supplied,
nor known to, any of the participating companies including Trend Micro.

Cascadia Labs concluded that, "In these tests, Trend Micro emerged as the clear winner overall, extending the
leading position it established in our testing in late 2008. Trend Micro also demonstrated a decided advantage
against security threats, with a significant contribution from its Web reputation services. In every security category --
malware, exploits, phishing, proxies, and potentially unwanted applications -- Trend Micro posted the best score."

Typically, URL filtering and Web security products protect PCs and corporate networks from dangerous, inappropriate,
and unwanted content on the Web. These products can block Web pages that may contain sexually explicit, violent,
or illegal content. At the same time, they also play an increasingly important role in securing corporate networks -- they
can provide a first line of defense against malicious Web pages and even legitimate Web pages that have been
temporarily hi-jacked or compromised with malicious redirects designed to steal visitors' personal information.

Trend Micro's URL filtering and Web security technologies are part of the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network,
which checks the reputation of more than 20 billion URL, email, and file queries daily. The Trend Micro Smart
Protection Network infrastructure delivers security that's smarter than conventional approaches by blocking the
latest threats in the cloud before they reach a corporate network. Powering Trend Micro's solutions and services,
the Smart Protection Network combines unique Internet-based reputation technologies and patent-pending correlation
techniques to offer immediate and automatic protection. Trend Micro blocks over 1 billion threats our customer's
access daily.

Trend Micro's overall security group blocking effectiveness from Cascadia Lab's report:

Malware: Trend Micro blocked 75 percent of malware URLs (up from 68 percent in 2008) -- including Trojans,
worms, viruses, and other downloads. The competing products scored between 53 to 55 percent.

Exploits: When pitted against exploits, or "drive-by" downloads, Trend Micro blocked nearly 80 percent (up from
73 percent in 2008) of these threats, while the others blocked between 48-58 percent.

Phishing: Trend Micro blocked over 80 percent (up from 74 percent in 2008) of these URLs. The next-best
product blocked 55 percent.

Potentially Unwanted Applications: URLs in this category include questionable, but not necessarily malicious,
URLs such as adware downloads. Trend Micro blocked 59 percent of these URLs, while the worst performing
product blocked just 23 percent.

Trend Micro's URL filtering and Web security technologies are used within a broad range of products and
solutions designed for both businesses and consumers:
Trend Micro™ Internet Security, easy, fast and smart security for the home and home office.

OfficeScan™ Client/Server Edition, an enterprise-class endpoint security product that provides on- and off-network
protection against both file and Web-based attacks.

IM Security for Microsoft™ Office Communications Server, an enterprise-class security product to protect internal IM
communications from file and Web-based attacks.

InterScan™ Web Security, an enterprise-class solution for securing employee's Internet Web and IM usage

Worry-Free™ Business Security, a comprehensive suite of endpoint and hosted gateway solutions to protect small
and medium businesses against file, email, and Web-based attacks.

Trend Micro™ Messaging Solutions utilize web reputation to block spam by checking any embedded URLs
against the company's Web reputation database.

The Trend Micro Smart Protection Network also powers free prevention and clean-up tools for both desktop
and smartphone users:

experience on the Web.

within six broad groups of primarily English-language pages: Security, Adult, Bandwidth Usage, Communications,
Liability, and Productivity & Recreation.

Cascadia Labs created an independent URL corpus to address the requirements of the enterprise market, with
a particular emphasis on security. The corpus contains 22 unique categories organized into six groups with more
than 1,600,000 URLs from approx 100,000 unique domains, primarily those of interest to English language users.

The Cascadia Labs corpus includes security threats in five different categories: malware, exploits, phishing,
proxy, and potentially unwanted applications (PUAs). They represent up-to-date threats including potential
zero-day attacks actually occurring in the wild.

Smartphone Users: Not Smart Enough About Security

They surf, they text and they download, but they're not too worried about phishing attacks or malicious Web sites.

CUPERTINO, Calif., Aug. 17, 2009 --For smartphone users, losing a phone or contact information and personal
data is more alarming to them than Web threat infections or phishing schemes, according to a recent Trend Micro
survey of over 1,000 smartphone and iPhone owners 18 years and older. In fact, 44 percent of respondents feel
that surfing the Internet on their smartphone (which may not be equipped with security software) is just as safe, if
not safer, as surfing on their PC.

Surfing, Without a Leash
According to the survey, only 23 percent of smartphone users utilize security software already installed on their
smartphone. One out of five respondents don't think installing security software program on their phones would be
very effective since, in their opinion, there is limited risk in smartphone surfing.

Despite such assurance, most smartphone users are familiar with the types of Web threats that could infect their
smartphones and almost half of respondents have been infected by malware.

Phishing is a the most familiar "threat" term among smartphone users - 80 percent of them know what it is and
20 percent of them have encountered a phishing scam, which is designed to con victims into supplying ID info,
account numbers, names and passwords by replying to email messages.

Spam is another smartphone staple. Almost half of the respondents surveyed have received spam emails on their
phones in the past 3 months; 17 percent say that the number of spam emails has increased. Half of those
surveyed have opened email attachments on their smartphone during the last month and nearly 40 percent have
clicked on a URL link in an email received on their phone.

iPhone Users - More Surfing, More Risk
Compared to other smartphone users, the survey found that Apple™ iPhone™ users are more likely to:
-- Surf the Web from their smartphones
-- Visit audio/video sharing sites, shopping, blogs and Web logs and social networking sites.
-- Send and receive email, as well as open an email attachment or clink on a URL link in an email.
-- Listen to music, watch videos, download music, use the GPS functionality, and visit online gaming sites.

Correlation doesn't always equal cause, but the sleek Web-browsing functionalities that make the iPhone so
attractive to gadget lovers also make them more susceptible to Internet-related threats compared to other
smartphone users. The most recently reported iPhone SMS vulnerability if unpatched, for example, could allow
hackers to extract personal information and take control of the device if a user is on a malicious Web site or an

The Most Dangerous Malware of 2008 Came From the Internet, According to Trend Micro Threat Research Analysis

CUPERTINO, Calif., Dec. 17 -- It's no surprise -- surfing the Internet without a security software installed brings
dangerous consequences, especially since the growth of Web threats have increased by nearly 2000 percent
since 2005. According to Trend Micro threat researchers, more than 50 percent of the top 100 malware of 2008
came from the Internet and were accidentally downloaded by users surfing unknown or malicious Web sites.

The second highest source of infections (43 percent) is from malware already present on a system. Today's multi-
component threats typically download one or more pieces of malware whose sole purpose is to hide in a specific
file, then contact a remote location to retrieve the real payload such as data stealing malware.

Finally, email attachments from unknown or malicious sources bring the third highest source (12 percent) of
infections. Other common ways to become infected include: clicking on links or accepting file transfers over
instant messaging applications; downloading files offered via peer-to-peer connections; using removable drives
such as thumb drives and portable/external drives; and failing to patch applications found to have vulnerabilities.

Even though regional data reflects the same general trend, there are slight variations. North America still has the
highest amount of adware and is seeing significant growth in data-stealing malware that arrive via the Internet.

Malware borne by removable drives (portable/external hard drives, thumb drives, flash disks, memory cards, etc.)
are at 29.31 percent in Asia and Australia, the highest compared to other regions. Most Asian countries have
auto-run malware (malware that spread through removable devices) as their top infectors, the highest
concentration compared to other regions. China is one exception -- the country has a high percentage of online
gaming spyware, due to its large online gaming population.

The top malware infecting PCs in Europe, Middle East and Africa are Trojan downloaders, Trojans that install
other malicious files to the computer system either by downloading them from a remote computer or by dropping
them directly from a copy contained in its own code. Infections through malicious IFrames (Inline Frames, a
popular Web design convention that enables one HTML document to be embedded inside another HTML
document) are also popular within this region.

Latin America's top threats are varied in profile but the region is seeing a growth in multi-component attacks.
Several malware found in PCs have in fact been dropped by other malware already present in the PC.

The volume and sophistication of Web threats make it imperative that multilayered, real-time protection is used
to ensure online safety. The Trend Micro™ Smart Protection Network, which powers most of Trend Micro's products
and solutions, correlates Web and email threat data by using reputation technologies that compare threats
against in-the-cloud threat databases. This unique type of cloud-client security infrastructure gives Trend Micro
customers real-time protection against the latest Internet threats, while enjoying online activities to the fullest.

For consumers, Trend Micro™ Internet Security Pro checks the reputation of Web pages, blocking access to
malicious sites before users have a chance to access them and innocently give away their personal information
or download potentially malicious code designed to steal their credit card or other valuable information.

Trend Micro Sees Growth of Underground Cybercrime Economy

In 2007, cash-motivated Web threats broadened; for 2008, the distinction between “good” and “bad” Web
sites will be blurred when it comes to security.

Cupertino, CA – February 19, 2008 – Trend Micro Incorporated (TSE: 4704), a global leader in Internet content
security, published today its 2007 Threat Report and 2008 Forecast.

According to research from Trend Micro’s TrendLabsSM, hackers are intensifying their attacks on legitimate
Web sites. The number of compromised Web sites are slowly outnumbering malicious ones created specifically
by cyber criminals. It debunks the adage to “not visit questionable sites” because even trusted Web sites such as
those belonging to Fortune 500 companies, schools and government organizations can hold malware.

An underground malware industry has carved itself a thriving market by exploiting the trust and confidence of
Web users. The Russian Business Network, for example, was notorious all year for hosting illegal businesses
including child pornography, phishing and malware distribution sites. This underground industry excludes no one.
In 2007, Apple had to contend with the ZLOB gang, a group of professional hackers who relies on tricking users
to download and install malicious software; even alternative operating systems are not safe havens for the online
user when it comes to Web threats. The Italian Gromozon, a malware disguised in the form of a rogue anti-spyware
security application, also made its mark in 2007.

This past year, the NUWAR (Storm) botnet expanded in scope. Trend Micro researchers learned that the Storm
botnet is renting its services to malicious hackers and its spamming capabilities rented out to spammers – evidence
that botnet threats are becoming more prevalent and sophisticated. During 2007, the most popular communication
protocol among botnet owners was still Internet Relay Chat possibly because software to create IRC bots is widely
available and easily implemented.

Security threats are no longer limited to PCs. Mobile devices, as they become more advanced and powerful, are
at risk for the same types of threats as PCs (viruses, spam, Trojans, malware, etc.) Gadgets with wireless capabilities
such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as storage capability have become major sources of data leaks and carriers
of infections through security perimeters.

Other notable findings from the report:
- The Windows Animated Cursor exploit (EXPL_ANICMOO) encompassed over 50 percent of all exploit codes to
hit the Internet computing population. 74 percent of its infections this year came from Asia. The same holds true
for TROJ_ANICMOO.AX, a related threat which embedded the exploit. 64 percent of computers infected with this
were from China.

- The top malware finding was WORM_SPYBOT.IS and WORM_GAOBOT.DF. Both created botnets and worms
that infected USB-connected devices.

- Nearly 50 percent of all threat infections come from North America, but Asian countries are also experiencing a
growth -- 40 percent of infections stem from that region.

-Social networking communities and user-created content such as blog sites became infection vectors due to
attacks on their underlying Web 2.0 technologies, particularly cross-site scripting and streaming technologies.

- Infection volumes nearly quadrupled between September and November 2007, indicating that malware authors
took advantage of the holiday seasons as an opportunity to send spam or deploy spyware while users are shopping
nline.

- In 2007, the top online commerce site attacked by phishers was still global auction site eBay and sister company
PayPal. Financial institutions, especially those based in North America, also experienced a high volume of phising
attacks.

2008 Forecast
Based on the emerging trends of this year, the following are Trend Micro’s forecasts for the 2008 threat landscape:
1. Legacy code used in operating systems and vulnerabilities in popular applications will continue to be attacked in
the effort to inject in-process malicious code that criminals can exploit to run malware as they attempt to steal
confidential and proprietary information.

2. High-profile Web sites that run the gamut of social networking, banking/financial, online gaming, search
engine, travel, commercial ticketing, local government sectors, news, job, blogging, and e-commerce sites for
auction and shopping will continue to be the most sought-after attack vectors by criminals to host links to phishing
and identity theft code.

3. Unmanaged devices such as smart phones, mp3 players, digital frames, thumb drives and gaming stations will
continue to provide opportunities for criminals and malware to infiltrate a company’s security borders due to their
capabilities for storage, computing and Wi-Fi. Public access points such as those in coffee shops, bookstores,
hotel lobbies, and airports will continue to be distribution points for malware or attack vectors used by malicious
entities.

4. Communication services such as email, instant messaging, as well as file sharing will continue to be abused by
content threats such as image spam, malicious URLs and attachments via targeted and localized social engineered
themes.

5. Data protection and software security strategies will become standard in the commercial software lifecycle. This
will also put a focus on data encryption technologies during storage and transit particularly in the vetting of data
access in the information and distribution chain.

Trend Micro™ Internet Security™ 2008 Achieves Top Scores in Anti-Malware Testing

According to independent testing firm, Trend Micro scored high in all categories: signature and proactive
detections, response times and rootkit detection.

Cupertino, California – January 30, 2008 – Trend Micro Incorporated (TSE: 4704), a global leader in Internet
content security, announced today that its consumer product, Trend Micro Internet Security 2008, top scored in
a comparison testing of 28 other antivirus products conducted by a leading, independent testing organization.

AV-Test.org (www.av-test.org), an independent testing group at the Otto-von-Guericke-University of Magdeburg,
Germany, reported that Trend Micro Internet Security was 1 of only 4 other products that detected all 12 active
rootkits in the test, surpassing competitors Kaspersky, McAfee and Sophos. A rootkit is a type of malicious
software that takes control of a computer system and is difficult to detect because it is often activated before
a system boots up. Trend Micro was given the highest rating of “Very Good” in this testing category.

Trend Micro also achieved the highest possible rating of “Very Good,” exceeding F-Secure, Kaspersky, McAfee,
Microsoft, Panda, Sophos and Symantec, in its signature-based, on-demand detection capabilities. According
to AV-Test.org, products were tested against more than 1 million samples of Trojan horses, backdoors, bots,
worms and viruses found spreading or which were distributed in the last six months.

The test results for other categories were:
In false positives/negatives: “Good.” (Trend Micro had only one false positive during a scan of 65,000 known
clean files, beating out Kaspersky and Panda.)

In proactive detection: “Good.” (Based on 3,500 samples for the retrospective test as well as 20 active samples
for the test of the "Dynamic Detection" - and blocking - of malware.)

In response times to new widespread malware: “Good.” (Trend Micro took 2-4 hours to respond to malware
outbreaks based on 55 different samples from the entire year 2007. McAfee, Microsoft, Panda and Symantec
took between 4 to over 8 hours.)

According to research by TrendLabsSM, Trend Micro’s global network of research, service and support centers,
Web threats grew by over 1500 percent between 2005 and 2007. The AV-Test team also discovered more than
5.5 million new malware samples in 2007. For consumers, this means that the simple act of browsing the Internet
from their desktop or mobile device can wreak havoc on their home computers and networks. So while pattern-
based detection is important, it is critical for both computers and mobile devices to be blocked from accessing
Web sites that may contain malicious code before malware has a chance to enter the desktop or network. Trend
Micro provides coordinated security in every area where Web threats can be most effectively stopped: in the
cloud, at the gateway and on the endpoint.

With Trend Micro Internet Security 2008, consumers get proactive, seamless protection from threats that
compromise their personal digital identity and the private, important files and images stored on their computers.
The product features: antivirus security, anti-spyware protection, personal firewall, fraud defense, wireless
network monitoring, home network control, and advanced parental control.

Spam continues to rise dramatically. It has more than doubled in the third quarter of 2007 and spam now
accounts for more than 90 percent of all email traffic on the Internet. With methods used by spammers
transforming, it’s more difficult to separate out spam emails based upon simple network-based criteria. Trend
Micro offers intelligent filtering solutions with heuristic rules as well as reputation services to keep the bulk of
spam entirely off the network and protect against Web-based threats.

"Spam is no longer a simple, mass-mailed advertisement. Spammers have combined efforts with hackers and
are using botnets and social engineering techniques to optimize spam profits," said Bruce Tillinger, senior
product manager, Trend Micro. "They are applying spam techniques to send malware, phishing and bulk mail
attacks; it’s important to stop the spam before it even enters the company’s network. We are pleased our
products have received Checkmark recognition--the anti-spam and content filtering products are part of a
complete mail and Web security solution."

"Trend Micro offers highly customizable mail and Web security solutions that can be tailored to meet the
demands of businesses today," said Chris Thomas of West Coast Labs. "The quality of detection, flexibility of
rule creation and implementation in the anti-spam solutions provide a solid platform with which to filter mail.
Trend Micro’s commitment to performance, flexibility and comprehensive protection from Web based threats is
reflected in the solutions tested."

Trend Micro anti-spam and antivirus products are:
Trend Micro InterScan Messaging Security Suite. This software gateway email security solution scans email
messages for spam, viruses, phishing, spyware and other mail-borne threats and provides content filtering to
enforce compliance and prevent data leakage. IMSS’s powerful anti-spam protection integrates Email Reputation,
IP profiler, and Trend Micro’s anti-spam composite engine to achieve a highly effective spam defense worthy of
the Checkmark Anti-Spam Premium Level Certification. IMSS is part of a family of gateway email security products,
including an appliance and hosted service solution.

Trend Micro InterScan Gateway Security Appliance. This all-in-one gateway solution provides comprehensive
protection from both mail and Web based security threats for small to medium sized businesses. It achieves this
by blocking threats at the Internet gateway to prevent threats from entering the network and subsequently
causing potential damage. IGSA utilizes the multi-layered protection components incorporated into the device
to reduce spam, minimizing interruptions in the busy working day.

Trend Micro InterScan Web Security Suite. This highly customizable enterprise gateway security solution
available for Windows, Linux and Solaris protects corporate networks against web-based viruses, spyware,
grayware, and phishing, plus optional modules combat malicious mobile code and manage employee Internet
use.

Other Trend Micro products that received Checkmark Certification in the past year include: ScanMail™
for Lotus Domino™, ScanMail for Microsoft™ Exchange, OfficeScan™ Client/Server Edition, ServerProtect™ for
Microsoft™ Windows™/Novell™ Netware™, Client Sever Messaging Security for SMB, InterScan VirusWall™
(Windows), Trend Micro™ Internet Security Pro, Trend Micro™ Internet Security 2008 and Trend Micro AntiVirus
plus AntiSpyware 2008.
